Open-air dance lessons—here along Shanghai’s Bund—have proven popular in China since the lifting in 1976 of a Cultural Revolution ban on public displays of personal emotion.
Pictures of my two siblings at their dance performance last night. Noah, 9, takes tap, and Lydia, 13, takes hip-hop. Both did well, and I enjoyed the chance to feel maternal and proud. However, the sheer, gathered display of adorable children had my mother clamoring for grandchildren. Again.
